Description
Originally designed by Buckeye Glass and later marketed by Model Flint this pattern, reverse swirl dates back to 1888. It can be found in numerous shapes and the four standard colors, white, blue, cranberry, Vaseline/uranium, some having a satin finish. One such shape was the toothpick holder. This example has opalescent band swirling one direction with the actual mold bands swirling the opposite. It stands 2 1/8” tall and measures 1 1/2” across the top. This item is in excellent condition for its age with no major damage or repairs. I will mention and as pictured tiny chiplets along the inside of the rim. I also provided a picture of what appears to be a small heat check less than 1/16 of an inch at one spot on the rim. I feel that the line as well as the minute chips were caused during production as I have seen these issue before on old glass. Under magnification I noticed small mold lines and imperfections on the outside, common with early glass. Still, a very scarce and desirable example of early opalescent glass. Reacts nicely in a black light. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
